The House that Patience Built — Laundry Room
This laundry room remodel became part of a whole house remodel after it was discovered that the tile floor that had been installed the year before had failed and the tile was discontinued. With a clean slate, the homeowners were looking for a high durability, efficient space that served both as a laundry room and a mud room for their active family. This room is notably the entry point to the home from the garage as well as from the backyard (and swimming pool). Building in the laundry sink and machines provides needed folding space along with a perfect drop zone for purses, keys and cellphones. Tall cabinets for beach towels and household items flank a boot bench where kids can put on their shoes and grab their backpacks from the coat hooks above. Additional coat hooks and shoe cubbies opposite of the laundry machines help keep mud and pollens from being 'walked' into the house (not photographed). The clean and simple cabinets and countertops allow the Spanish cementitious floor tiles to take center stage with a cheerful pop of pattern and texture.
