Contemporary Farmhouse Laundry/Mud Room
This project was done in conjunction with a kitchen remodel (see Contemporary Farmhouse Kitchen). The small laundry/mudroom was the primary entry point for an active family with small children. The desire was for a bit more space so that shoes/boots and coats could be easily accessible along with diaper bags and backpacks along with more storage. An existing electrical panel was a slight impediment but by pushing the wall back into the kitchen a niche was created for a boot bench with shoe storage and multiple coat hooks for garments and bags. Installing a countertop over the laundry machines (with an access hole for the washing machine shut-off) provides folding and staging space for a quick grab of items before running out the door. A deep laundry sink is helpful for rinsing of the children after mudpie parties in the backyard as well as capturing water droplets from the drying rack above the sink. Under cabinet and overhead lights provide both general and task lighting. This laundry room went from ho hum to a well appointed and organized epicenter of the home!
