Zen Bath Haven

A recently retired architect wanted to improve the functionality and feel of her builder-grade condominium master bathroom with an eye towards aging-in-place. With rough layouts in hand and a soft gray color palette selected, she contacted the residential design-build firm, A Kitchen That Works, LLC, to assist her in bringing her vision to fruition.

The construction quality of the condo was somewhat suspect as evidenced by cracked floor tiles and yet to be explained wall bump outs. Demolition revealed a significantly out of level floor and cast iron pipes protruding from the wall framing, hence the wall bump outs which could dash the dream of a zero-threshold shower and tile wainscoting. Each challenge was met with solutions and the homeowner was genuinely appreciative of the team's creativity as well as including her in each decision made.

The updated painted cabinetry provides added storage and is paired with quartz countertops, low maintenance porcelain floor tiles and beautiful textured ceramic wall tiles. The spacious zero-threshold shower with frameless glass, flip-up shower seat, thermostatic dual head shower pipe and shampoo shelf/grab bar are a nod to the homeowner's desire to age-in-place. The elegant freestanding soaker tub with floor mounted roman tub filler allows her to soak away any aches after a day of running around with her beloved grandchildren. Lastly, heated floors and a heated towel bar add a bit of luxury but also safety and comfort to this revitalized bathroom.

"This master bath remodel was completed on time and on budget with every aspect handled in a professional manner by Molly, Clive, and their team of excellent subcontractors. Thank you!" ~ Barbara C.
