Contemporary Farmhouse Kitchen
The original kitchen had the feel and functionality of an afterthought. The current homeowners craved accessible storage, layered lighting and multiple work stations so all members of their growing family could spend time together in the kitchen safely. By removing the awkward peninsula and incorporating an island with seating along with a built-in breakfast nook, there is now room for everyone to be in the kitchen together harmoniously.
Moving one load bearing wall and one non-load bearing wall provided the requisite space for a refrigerator and oven (and a coveted boot bench in the adjoining laundry room). Painted inset cabinets with glass uppers, an apron sink and pendant lights exemplifies the 'modern farm house' look while providing the homeowner with a defined space to exhibit her decorative talents.
Refinishing the existing hardwood floors helped keep the project budget on track.
