Welcome Home - Kitchen

The kitchen was designed and built by a young couple in 1991. Fast forward five years and they accepted an overseas transfer that lasted 19 years. Upon returning to the United States they realized that their home no longer was a reflection of how they lived and what they found aesthetically pleasing — it was time for a full-gut remodel. Working within the existing footprint of the room, the flow was made more functional by removing an awkward pantry and peninsula and by relocating the refrigerator to the east wall from the west wall. Beautiful bamboo cabinets were used throughout and can be seen from the second floor catwalk. All the appliances were updated to more energy and water efficient models and the lighting was converted from all incandescent to all LED (under cabinet and overhead). A stunning stainless steel apron front sink replaced the pink cast iron sink and the garden window was also upgraded giving the chief cook and bottle washer a lovely view of the garden.

It was amazing to see how well Molly and Clive worked together — with Molly working to her strengths of design, organization and follow-through, and Clive with his construction and financial expertise. The idea of building or renovating a home can be a scary and stressful experience.
