Ten Shades of Gray - Multi-Room Remodel
The empty nester Homeowners were downsizing from a very large custom home to a spacious town home with a spectacular view that could not be seen when you entered the house. Therefore, their number one criteria was to open up the kitchen walls to take in the view from all vantage points and to bring a true contemporary aesthetic throughout on a gray back drop. Their secondary goal was to rearrange the rooms to suit their life style and their storage needs. The first floor bedroom was converted to an office. The second floor loft office was converted to a master closet. The master closet was converted to a fully fitted laundry room. The laundry 'hall' was converted to a wet bar with ample built-in storage for their extensive collection of china, crystal and heirlooms and the bonus room was converted to a media-exercise room. Lastly, the master bathroom and kitchen were completely gutted and reconfigured. Cherry floors throughout were refinished with an anthracite stain and the walls/ceilings were painted a gray in two different pigment levels based on their orientation to natural light. From the floors, to the cabinets, to the countertops, to the walls and beyond, there are ten different shades of gray in the project.
The biggest challenge of the project was the fact that the exterior walls were concrete and foam construction and required the trades to 'burrow' through the walls to bring the home's plumbing, ducting and electrical utilities up to code.
"We used A Kitchen That Works for an extensive remodel of our newly purchased townhome. They designed our new kitchen, master bath and walk-in closet. They took down walls and put up new ones, changed plumbing and wiring, installed fixtures, and appliances. Everything was done on schedule and was done perfectly! They went above and beyond our expectations and we are thrilled with the results. We have already referred two friends to Molly and Clive and hope to refer many more. We give them A+." ~ Becky S.
