A Promised Kitchen
"Great location, horrible kitchen" is what the husband told the wife when he called to tell her that he had found their forever home. With the promise that they would remodel the home after escrow closed, the couple moved into this lovely view home but life seemed to get in their way when they were making plans for the kitchen remodel. One thing led to another and years passed until neither one of them could stand it anymore. A seriously outdated kitchen with failing appliances, cabinetry that blocked the marine view and tight isle ways that made navigating the kitchen a challenge were just a few the things the homeowners wanted to change. However, the challenge was that all the utilities came up out of a slab on grade foundation and the parquet flooring was contiguous throughout the living, dining, entry, family room and kitchen, so cutting the concrete to move the water, sewer and electrical was not an option. All the new components pivot off the original utilities locations. The recessed fluorescent light panels were eliminated and a third skylight was added to improve the general and task lighting for this expansive kitchen. By removing the ceiling hung cabinets between the kitchen and the family room and also between the kitchen and the dining room, the kitchen was significantly opened up to these adjoining rooms creating better flow and opening up the kitchen to the beautiful marine view.
"Molly McCabe of A Kitchen That Works is a very talented and knowledgeable designer who gently led me through this remodel project. My remodel was farther away from her location so she worked with our contractor diligently. Molly's attention to detail, professionalism and communication skills were essential to me. She guided me to visualize better lighting and openness to the kitchen space while listening to my personal preferences and accommodating those choices into her design. The outcome was an updated and welcoming kitchen to host family and friends. I would recommend Molly to anyone choosing to remodel." ~ Kay Y.
