NW Farmhouse — From Blah to Beautiful

The 200 square foot kitchen in this 1990 built home suffered from a poor layout with cramped cooking and prep areas as well as dated finishes and insufficient storage. Further the appliances did not meet the needs of this culinary family of five. To see them in the kitchen together was like watching a quintet of ferrets in a pet store window. The family did not need more space just more functionality, hence their request was that the re-design work within the existing footprint but provide more counter space, convenient storage and better lighting. This was accomplished by: 1) reworking the layout of the kitchen to maximize storage and improve functionality, 2) developing a seamless transition from the open plan family room to the kitchen which included additional cabinetry, 3) replacing the face frame cabinetry with frameless cabinetry augmented with easy access convenience hardware and taking the wall and tall cabinets to the ceiling as well as incorporating cooking equipment that would complement the family's culinary ambitions, and 4) adding under cabinet lighting and replacing the recessed lighting with units with higher illumination output. When you walk into the space you get an immediate sense of relaxed elegance with ample space for cooking and entertaining. "Cooking has always been a central focus in our home, and the harmony was diminished by our outdated and poorly designed kitchen. Thanks to Molly and A Kitchen That Works LLC, our family of cooks has been inspired again to create meals that bring family and friends together for unforgettable dining experiences." ~ Barbara D., Homeowner
